Laws for Creations | Dallas, TX | Project | 2003
Materials: Video
Screened 2009, Scribe Video Center

Driving through Dallas one day, I saw a man sitting in an open doorway, carving a long stick with a Swiss army knife. Above his head hung a bright yellow sign that read, “Dallas Street Art Project”. Venturing inside, I found a workspace and gallery for houseless artists. I was captivated by the stories people told me about their work, which defied conventional boundaries of trained art. Oriented around four themes (homelessness, art, addiction, and order) Laws for Creations documents the artistic methods of four men and the creative processes they use to create order in their lives.
